The rythym of rebirth and regeneration named by the africans after the snake, because the snake can shed its skin each year and appear to be reborn…and so the guan guanco became the rhythm of rebirth and regeneration
After years and years of the emotional abuse, a beautiful, wise queen finally whispered to the young girl not to take it personally. She explained to the young girl that she was allowed to stand up for herself. And she reminded the young girl not to swallow the poisonous words but to swallow strength instead.
So the young girl swallowed that strength and never looked back.
one of the best things about life is those people that you just happen to cross paths with…so many things could have prevented you from ever entering each others lives and yet you interact with them (however brief or long) and your entire reality is altered. It could simply be that person whose blog you really related to, or the best friend you’ve known your whole life whose parents just happened to go to the same med school as yours, or the girl you thought was annoying in high school but turned out to be the person you can be completely yourself around, maybe it’s that awkward yet attractive man you ended up playing beer pong with who you might have fallen for, or the girl who dressed as Dorothy for halloween that ended up being your neighbor, maybe its the curly-headed shy girl who happened to be in your cabin your first year at summer camp, it’s the dude who made fun of you in freshman year but who you ended up being able to tell everything to….I think you get where I’m going with this. I have beautiful people in my life (some of you are definitely included in that group!) and I feel truly blessed to have been exactly where I was, when I was, and doing whatever I was doing to have allowed all these relationships to occur. mahalo nui loa to all those who have shared their light with me, trust that I don’t take that for granted.
“The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things. We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.”—
